slated for redditization (is that a word?)

25 July 2006

We're pleased to announce that we're working with Slate to give its readers a new way to find and discuss its best content. We've recently turned on Slate.reddit as the first step in bringing the reddit format to Slate readers (integration with the Slate website is on the way).

Slate articles have always tended to do fairly well on reddit, so we thought we'd give you a first look.

It's populated via RSS, so there's no submission necessary, just vote and comment away.

Congratulations!

What do you do after step 3 ("profit!!!1")?

Apparently, step 4 is "take over the world" :-)

Well done!

I've always loved slate, and this is very very cool. Thanks.

If the Slate articles are upvoted will they show up in the Hot section of the homepage ?

Not at the moment. Traffic volume probably won't be high enough for a little bit, but when the time comes it will likely function similar to how programming.reddit does now.

congratulations!

My XP SP1 computer got the Trojan Popper trojan from one of the sites on reddit today. Where can I confirm which site it came from, so I don't go back?

A million users got infected with malware from ads on Myspace recently. Somebody's been hijacking networked ad servers, so it could be just about any site with ads on it. Here are some things that could prevent this problem in the future:

SP2

AVG

Firefox

Adblock Plus

Don't forget SpyBot Search & Destroy! http://safer-networking.org/

Tsk. I guess "targeted advertising" isn't enough of business model for some people. Show-offs!

Yeah, for sure. I can't say I ever pictured this revenue stream, but it's brilliant, really.

A fully functional bolt-it-on commenting and discussion system, complete with community. Kind of like that HaloScan stuff, but... better.

That liberal blog? Hell no.

"Sladdit" or perhaps "Reddate" ?

mikeatlas 2 years ago #

What have we done?... the English language will never be the same.

Reddate sounds like either Communist-dating site or a Republican one...

It's a bit counterintuitive to have the word Slate link to reddit.com instead of to slate on the slate.reddit page.

Not bad. But since all this stuff is coming from Slate, could you have the "submitter" be, for example, the author/editor, or something else unique about the article? I bet it'd be interesting to see how often certain authors are modded up or down. (I'm betting Chris Hitchens gets slammed.)

Can we get the author of the article indicated in some way on the reddit page?

Can you reddit guys teach the slate guys how to simplify thier layouts? Please. Slate is so hard to read because its web pages are just crazy busy.

awesome!

Good stuff! Isnt it a little redundant to have "(slate.com)" after every link though? :)

well done guys!

Looks good. Now, where's guardian.reddit and bbc.reddit?

sometimes slate's humor, supposedly interesting off-beat stuff, and nit-picky criticism of the media really don't work. they are really hit or miss. like, will that Jack guy ever just accept that the media makes a big deal out of things from time to time and stop hyping up how silly the meth hype is? i imagine this will be really good feedback for them!
